End of Term… and End of an Era

We have reached the end of term and its the end of another successful year for the group. Jenny Owens and Sandra Goodwin, our Group Scout Leaders, would like to thank all the leaders for their hard work and wish everyone a good and safe summer.

It is not just the end of a term, its also the end of an era. After 32 years of dedicated service to the Spitfire Beaver colony and the 23rd Bromley Stella is stepping down. The group want to thank her for all her hard work and friendship over the years and hope she enjoys her retirement but hope she knows she will be greatly missed and will always be welcome at group events.

The group would also like to welcome Laura Evans and Joe Tregent to the group – they are taking over the running of Spitfire Beavers, we thank them and hope they enjoy their time in the group.

On Monday 22nd July a few of the group supporters organised a surprise farewell event for Stella – it was great to see people of all ages turn out to thank Stella. Below are some photos from the event:

Jamboree Departure

This week 7 people from the group have begun their journey to the World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, USA. The World Scout Jamboree is the largest camping event organized by the Scout Movement, gathering as many as 50,000 Scouts and leaders every four years from more than 200 countries and territories.

On Thursday Patrick Walker jetted off to be part of the International Service Team (IST). The IST is an army of volunteers who help with a whole range of tasks and activities to enable the Jamboree to run smoothly for all of the Young People.

This morning (Saturday) 6 of our Explorers departed from Heathrow with the rest of Greater London South East Unit (Unit 25). The group wish Alex Costello, Katie Ainscough, Sydney Codalli, Charlotte Miles, Megan Ward and Jordan Bartlett all the best for their Jamboree. We can’t wait to hear all about it when you get back.

The group is very proud that so many members of the group have been selected to be a part of the World Scout Jamboree. You can keep up to date with Unit 25’s adventures using the following:

Ink Cartridge Recycling

We have topped up the ink cartridge recycling envelopes in the lobby of the HQ.

You can raise money for the group by putting a used ink cartridge in the envelope and popping it in the post box – it couldn’t be simpler!

Explorers Foodbank Project

This week our Explorers undertook the Foodbank Challenge.

They met at a local supermarket and each group were given £13. With this they had to buy 26 items that were to be donated to the local Foodbank – each item had to start with a different letter of the alphabet.

It was great to see how seriously the Explorers took the challenge and the vast number of items that they have been able to donate.

Well done to one group who managed to buy all 26 items with 10p to spare!

Sports Day 2019

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Sports Day yesterday – we all had a great day despite the occasional downpour!

Well done to all who took part and those who won Awards. Certificates will be handed out the section meetings in the coming weeks.
