Group’s 80th Anniversary

This year is the Group’s 80th Anniversary and to celebrate there was a weekend of celebrations for all ages.

On the evening of Friday 11th October there was a Dinner Dance at Cherry Lodge Golf Club which was attended by past and present leaders / supporters, as well as former members.

On Saturday 12th October there was a Fun Day at Wilberforce Scout Centre. There were activities for all ages, a sizzling BBQ and a fantastic cake baked by Laura Evans!

Thanks to everybody who came along to celebrate 80 years of providing life changing Scouting experiences to our members.

Below are a selection of pictures from the weekend:

Claire & Ellen Receive Long Service Awards

Congratulations to two of our Explorer leaders who were recently presented with long service awards – with the help of a feathered friend who happened to be visiting Explorers.

Claire Pester was presented with her 20 year service award, and Ellen Alexander was presented with her 5 year service award.

The group are really grateful for all of the time that both have commited to giving Young People brilliant Scouting experiences over the years.

St Christopher’s Hospice Fun Walk

As a Scout Group we will beĀ supporting the St Christopher’s Hospice Fun Walk on Sunday 19th May by manning a check point.Ā Our main duties will be to provide encouragement to participants and to guide them in the right direction. Based on previous years approximately 3,000 people have done the walk each year.

Our check point , No 11 is by Ashmore Farm off Ashmore Lane accessed just past The Crown Inn at Leaves Green. It is just under half way of two of the longer routes of the Fun Walk and accordingly we are told to expect at our people atĀ ourĀ check point from circa 9.30am with the last people passing by about 2.30pm.

As well as supporting a local charity this is an opportunity for us to promote the 23rd Bromley in the local community, if you can spare sometime you would be very welcome to come along anytime during the dayĀ (either in uniform or wearing a Group Scarf if you are a uniform member of the Group).

If you or your family are taking part in the walk look out forĀ a special warm welcome at checkpoint 11 .

An evening to Remember Mick Golding

It was brilliant that over 80 people came along to the BBQ and Campfire at Wilberforce in memory of Mick Golding this weekend.

There were people of all ages present to reflect on the fond memories they had with Mick over the years. Sue and T put on a brilliant campfire and Mick would have been proud about how big the campfire was!

Thanks in particular to Ian Powell for all his hard work in organising the event.

Mick’s BBQ Reminder

Gang Show Delivers Again

Over 230 people came to watch our Gang Show on Saturday, and were entertained by 8 different sections from the Scout Group and 2nd Bromley Brownies. There were songs from the Beavers, Cubs and Brownies; funny skits from the Scouts and Explorers and a Disney remake from the Network. As is tradition, the Gang Show ended with traditional campfire songs, including the famous ā€œRiding Along on the Crest of a Waveā€. This was a song that Ralph Reader produced for the first ever Gang Show back in the 1930s and its still sung today.

Well done to all of the Young People who took part in the Gang Show, you put a lot of effort into rehearsing and it really paid off. A huge thank you must also go to all of the Leaders who made the event possible.

The Gang Show ticket sales raised over Ā£1,500 for the Scout group and Ā£225 for the Brownies. In addition to this, the retiring collection raised over Ā£750 for the HQ Improvement Project fund.

We are already looking forward to our next Gang Show in 2021!
