Christmas Bazaar 2022

It’s only 9 weeks until the next fund raising event on Saturday the 26th November which will be the Group’s “Christmas Bazaar”.  Please put the date in your diary so you can attend, have some fun and buy some bargains!

Could we please just remind you that we would be very grateful for any donations of unwanted gifts or nearly new items of toiletry/jewellery items and complete toys and jigsaws which can be delivered on a weekly basis to the HQ when your son/daughter goes to their Scout meeting.

All monies raised at this event will go directly to the Group Funds which are used for the maintenance of the HQ and general running of the Group.

Your support would really be appreciated.

Fundraising Committee Chairman

Trustees’ Annual Report & Accounts 2022

The group are pleased to publish our Trustees’ Annual Report & Accounts Year Ending 31 March 2022.

This Annual Report is issued by the trustees of the 23rd Bromley (St Augustine’s) Scout Group in conformity with requirements of relevant Charities Acts and the Policy, Organisation and Rules of the Scout Association. It covers the financial year ended 31st March 2022 and the census year ending 31st January 2022.

Second Hand Uniform Sales

As our Young People grow we appreciate they get through a lot of uniforms and camping gear in their time in the group, and we know it can be expensive to keep buying replacements. In order to try to reduce waste, but also make Scouting more affordable, we are looking into setting up a second hand stall each term.

Please leave any donations of outgrown uniforms, walking boots/shoes, wellies and waterproofs in the box in the Scout Hut. Once we have a stock of items we will be looking to organise a second hand stall each term. Proceeds will go towards supporting the Scout Group.

Thanks to Alison Ancrum and Hazel Murphy who are co-ordinating this for the group.

Gone Home – Tony Elwood

It is with very deep sadness that we have to share with you that Tony Elwood, ‘T’ to his friends at the 23rd, has sadly passed away.

‘T’ spent many happy years helping at our troop, he was a great scout leader, a loyal friend, and an inspirational man who had an amazing sense of humour, which was often seen at campfires and gang shows.

The funeral will be on Thursday 13th October, 2:30pm at Hither Green Crematorium.I’m sure you’ll all join us in sending our sincere condolences to his wife, Sue, and his family.

Spitfires Weekend Camp

Last weekend Spitfire Beavers went on their first ever two-night camp at Frylands Wood. Their weekend was packed with activities including t-shirt designing, orienteering, science experiments, with archery, climbing, pond dipping, making rockets, baking and den building.

The Beavers even cooked dinner for themselves on Saturday, and made burgers and muffins for their parents on Sunday.

All the beavers did a great job all weekend, their behaviour was brilliant as commented on to me by a number of staff of the campsite, everyone was willing to give all the activities a try.

A huge thanks to the leaders who organised such a great weekend, and a particular thank you to the parents / helpers who supported over the weekend.

National Volunteer Week

Today marks the launch of National Volunteers Week. We wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you to the 40+ volunteers who give up countless hours in order to provide Scouting experiences for our Young People.

The 23rd Bromley Scout Group is run entirely by volunteers. It is not just our Section Leaders, we have a Group Executive made up of volunteers, as well as a Fundraising Committee and lots of individuals who help out with odd jobs and lend a hand at events when needed. Without each and every one of you we couldn’t provide the high quality experience that we pride ourselves on.

Explorers selected to attend World Scout Jamboree in South Korea

The 23rd Bromley are delighted to once again have a number of our members be selected to attend a World Scout Jamboree.

Congratulations to Alyssa Ranasinghe, Callum Hall, and George Miles who have been selected to be part of the Greater London South East (GLSE) Jamboree Unit.

They will be a part of a Unit of 36 Scouts/Explorers from the local area who are attending the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in summer 2023. There they will be joined by over 40,000 other Scouts from around the world.

Alyssa, Callum and George all need to raise a significant amount of money to attend the World Scout Jamboree – so keep your eyes peeled for details of their fundraising initiatives…

Donation to Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal

The Scout Group have been appalled at the recent events in Ukraine. Ongoing violence is causing people to flee their homes and become separated from their families.

The Group Executive have therefore agreed for the group to make a donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal via the British Red Cross.
