There has been a committee raising funds for the 23rd since the group began in 1939. At present the committee is made up of existing group member parents and also many past scout/cub members and parents. All of us are interested in supporting what I believe to be the best Scout Group in Bromley. I am David Wilcox (Chairman) and together with Barbara Wilcox, Linda and Charlie Lawn, Mick Shipp, Marilyn Davis, Helen Smith, Iris Reynoldson, Diane Bush, John Blunden, and Paul Gubby we make up the current committee.
Our aim is to raise funds for keeping the 23rd vibrant and progressive. We have events throughout the year which are all well advertised such as the twice yearly “Coffee morning with Bric a Brac and second hand book sale”, the Christmas Bazaar, an Auction and other special social evening functions. We also help out with refreshments at Group activities like the Christmas Carol Service and Sports Day. We also support other charities within the area particularly recycling items after the Bric a Brac sales, so if you know of any good causes who could benefit please let us know. We are always looking for new ideas for fund raising, so if you have any do pass them on to us.
The committee meets five times a year for meetings to arrange these events and we will always welcome new members. Please ask your section leader, the GSL or myself. Look out for our notices which your son/daughter brings home, as we really do need you if we are to keep the 23rd running at the same standard as in the past. This is not only for your own children but those who follow.
There is much to be gained in friendship within the scout movement. Barbara and I have been involved since we were respectively in the Brownies and Cubs which certainly takes care of well over 50 years – we obviously love it and would welcome anyone to join in and share the fellowship and fun.
