National Volunteer Week

Today marks the launch of National Volunteers Week. We wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you to the 40+ volunteers who give up countless hours in order to provide Scouting experiences for our Young People.

The 23rd Bromley Scout Group is run entirely by volunteers. It is not just our Section Leaders, we have a Group Executive made up of volunteers, as well as a Fundraising Committee and lots of individuals who help out with odd jobs and lend a hand at events when needed. Without each and every one of you we couldn’t provide the high quality experience that we pride ourselves on.

Explorers selected to attend World Scout Jamboree in South Korea

The 23rd Bromley are delighted to once again have a number of our members be selected to attend a World Scout Jamboree.

Congratulations to Alyssa Ranasinghe, Callum Hall, and George Miles who have been selected to be part of the Greater London South East (GLSE) Jamboree Unit.

They will be a part of a Unit of 36 Scouts/Explorers from the local area who are attending the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in summer 2023. There they will be joined by over 40,000 other Scouts from around the world.

Alyssa, Callum and George all need to raise a significant amount of money to attend the World Scout Jamboree – so keep your eyes peeled for details of their fundraising initiatives…

Donation to Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal

The Scout Group have been appalled at the recent events in Ukraine. Ongoing violence is causing people to flee their homes and become separated from their families.

The Group Executive have therefore agreed for the group to make a donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal via the British Red Cross.

Networks Monopoly Run Adventures

This weekend a group of Network members took part in Monopoly Run “Live”. It involves groups from Scouting and Guiding racing around London visiting the actual locations on the Monopoly game board, such as Trafalgar Square and Oxford Street. Teams compete against each other in real time to buy and rent property, pick up ‘Chance’ cards as well as passing ‘Go’.

They did really well and came 35th out of over 900 groups!

Network is for people aged 18-25 years old, and they meet on a Wednesday evening. If you are interested in joining our Network then feel free to drop us an email admin@23rdbromleyscouts.org

Bromley Rotary Club Donation

Last night the group were delighted to be presented with a cheque for £1,500 from Bromley Rotary Club. This was in return for helping them with their Santa Sleigh Collection before Christmas.

Huge thank you to Bromley Rotary Club and all who donated – this money will really help the 23rd Bromley Scout Group.

Merry Christmas

This has been another challenging year for the Group but we were able start face to face scouting again in April and this carried on right through till December with some amazing weekly meetings and camps happening, then things changed again and we had to put more restrictions in place but we have an awesome group of leaders who just carried on delivering, Covid safe, amazing programmes.

The pantomime rehearsals started in October but unfortunately we have had to make the decision to cancel it again this year but we thank all the cast and crew for their continued support.

We thank all the leaders, young people, supporters and families for everything you do for the group and we wish you all a happy and safe Christmas and New Year.

Jenny & Sandra (Group Scout Leaders)

Pantomime Cancellation

The group have taken the very tough decision to cancel our pantomime performances that were scheduled to take place in January.

The cast and crew have already put in countless hours to get ready for the performances, but given the current uncertainty regarding Covid we feel the safest decision for all is to stop rehearsing and cancel the performances.

We will be in touch with all ticket holders after Christmas with details about refunds.

A huge thank you must go out to everyone who has put so many hours into preparations – it is very much appreciated.
